Top Questions you need to know about epoxy.

The sky is the limit when it comes to using epoxy resin. Here are some things you should know about epoxy resin in order to use it properly in coating applications:

FIRST *** Proper Planning Prevents a Mess.

Plan out all the steps, prior to mixing and have all the needed equipment, heat sources, windbreaks, and dust cover ready to go.

Here are some FAQ

  1. How do you properly coat edges with epoxy?

While you generally use a raised edge or a border all the way around an item to properly coat the edges of your item, there are certain brands that allow you to only pour right over the edge without doing border preparations. You only need to pour the epoxy deliberately and sand hardened epoxy is formed during the curing process.

  1. What is the proper working time of coating when it comes to epoxy?

We have several types of Epoxy Resin. They react differently. Please refer to the instructions and product descriptions for more details.

  1. How thick is the depth of an epoxy?

Epoxy generally has a depth of 1/8 inches. If you want to avoid sanding between layers, it is highly recommended for you to apply additional coats within 4-6 hours

  1. What is the ideal temperature when curing epoxy?

To maximize your curing process, it is recommended that the epoxy is cured in areas ranging between 75-100 degrees Fahrenheit.

  1. What is the maximum temperature that epoxy can tolerate?

After you are finished with fully-curing your item with epoxy, you must be careful when it comes to exposing your items to high temperatures. Usually, items with epoxy coating can only withstand 135 Fahrenheit. Anything more than that will damage the epoxy coating.

  1. How do you properly seal wood surfaces?

Sealing wood surfaces come it two stages. First, you must apply the seal coat— a small batch of epoxy that people brush to seal pores in an item. After that, you will begin with the flood coat. This should be poured approximately 4 -10 hours after the seal coat to avoid sanding.

  1. What is the average cure time for epoxy?

Epoxy dries after 12-14 hours, but you can only use the item you put a coating on after 72 hours. That is not to say that the curing process is done after 3 days. To fully cure the epoxy applied on an item, you have around 6 months to draw out imperfections in curing and processing the epoxy.

  1. What does the finishing of epoxy look like?

Epoxy finishing looks like high-gloss liquid glass coating. It is not available in matte or satin finishes, but you can spray a coat of satin lacquer or matte over the material to achieve the finish you want.

  1. Does epoxy smell?

It depends upon the type of epoxy you purchase. There are some that give off foul smells. However, we strive to provide odorless epoxy here in our company.

  1. Can epoxy be applied vertically?

Technically, no. If you want to apply epoxy on items with a vertical orientation, you have to coat the item while it is in a horizontal orientation and wait until 72 hours before you hang it vertically.

  1. Can you use epoxy outdoors?

It is advisable for people to avoid using epoxy on outdoor items to prevent discoloration. Epoxy is not UV protected and is sensitive to temperature. When exposed to extreme temperatures, the epoxy can crack or get damaged easily. We do have specially formulated products with UV protectors mixed inside to help with discoloring from sunlight.

  1. Are you safe if your food gets in contact with cured epoxy?

Yes, you are going to be most likely safe from epoxy poisoning if your food gets in contact with cured epoxy. This does not mean that you are safe from any illnesses, however, as epoxy is not an antimicrobial element.

   12.1 FDA Approved?

We have FDA approved safe Epoxy available by special request. Not for consumers. Typically only available for other manufacturers and distributors.

  1. Can you spray epoxy?

The short answer is no, you cannot. The material of epoxy is too thick to spay, and you will end up with a messed-up surface if you attempt to spray epoxy over your item.

  1. Can you mix paint with epoxy?

Mixing paints with epoxy, may not work. What you can do is purchase colored tints and pigments to apply according to instructions.

  1. What happens when you coat a white surface with epoxy?

The color of the epoxy may not be noticeable when poured over colored materials, but you may see a hint of amber when you have it poured over a white surface. Please test small areas prior.

  1. How do you make a dam for epoxy?

There are some coating projects that necessitate the temporary installation of an epoxy dam. To create it, you need to use a flexible plastic strip that won’t stick to the epoxy. Another viable option is to use wooden trim that is covered with at least 4 mil plastic sheeting. Using another chemical like

  1. Can you apply epoxy over stained wood?

Yes, you can apply epoxy over stained wood. However, you have to be careful in doing so. You must make sure that the stain is properly dried before applying epoxy. This is to avoid non-sticking and easy-to-peel-off surfaces after a couple of months.

  1. Is your epoxy available in physical stores?

At the moment, our epoxy isn’t available in physical stores yet. You may buy our epoxy online though, and you can have it conveniently delivered by courier.

  1. How do I remove rings in surfaces with epoxy?

The key element in removing rings in surfaces with epoxy is heat. You have to expose your item to heat in order to help soften the epoxy. Only then will it get harder and smother.

  1. What is the proper maintenance method for epoxy?

As much as possible, avoid using abrasive cleaners and sponges when cleaning items with epoxy coatings. Try using warm soapy water, or even a little Windex if you prefer. Just make sure not to expose the surface to a lot of chemicals, as epoxy is a highly-sensitive material

   21. What is the shelf life of your epoxy resin products?

All solvent-free epoxies have essentially unlimited shelf lives so long as they are stored in sealed containers. The resin may crystallize or the hardener may darken but this does not affect its performance. If the material is more than a year old do a test to satisfy yourself that it cures properly.

  22.  When will I get my shipment?

Go to this link and enter your order number. You will likely find the tracking info there. If it has been less than 1-2 business days, please check back later. If you still have not received info after 2 business days, feel free to send us an email or give us a call.

  23. What do I do if my shipment is damaged or my product is not working?

If the product was damaged during shipping, please save the packaging and take a photo of the Product + Packaging + and Order number. Kindly forward the information to us via email. support @

If you believe the product is defective, please try one more small mixture following the instructions. Often times, the mixture is too large and was not mixed thoroughly enough for the epoxy and resin to react.

  24. Bubbles, bubbles bubbles

Bubbles are common. A simple way to eradicate them is by using a heat source like a heat gun or a small torch. Lighter = No (You will burn your finger off).  Also, we have special formulations which naturally have fewer bubbles like Liquid Diamonds.
