How to Make a Beautiful Painting Using Epoxy Resin

Here is how Melissa from @fieryfordeepblue made a beautiful painting out of epoxy resin.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful art with us @fieryfordeepblue!

These are the items we need to prepare:

Step 1:

If this is your first time, let's start with a design in mind. Nothing wrong with having a template to follow. Try to mimic what we are making here.

Now that we have a design in mind, we can prepare the epoxy resin.

Measure your canvas and estimate of how much epoxy resin we may need to cover the canvas.

Here is a handy calculator tool to help you estimate: https://www.theepoxyresinstore.com/pages/epoxy-resin-calculator

Now that we know how much epoxy resin we will need, let's start mixing.

We start by mixing parts A & B of our Platinum Clear Epoxy resin. This is a 1:1 ratio epoxy resin. We mix equal parts of part A and part B here.

Slowly stir and scrape both the bottom and edges of the mixing cup for approximately 2-5 minutes, then we should be ready to move to the next step.

***Make sure there are no spots within the mixing cup that have not been scraped and mixed correctly.

Step 2:

Divide the epoxy mixture into different cups slowly.

Step 3:

Mix in your favorite Black Diamond Pigment colors for a nice shimmer effect. Mix thoroughly into the epoxy resin mixture. Again, mix slowly.

Step 4:

Mix our liquid pigments into an epoxy mixture. This will be great for creating a base coat color without a shimmery effect.

Step 5:

Apply a clear seal coat onto the wooden canvas. This is primarily to seal the base of the wooden canvas and to help the colored epoxy flow/spread onto the canvas.

Step 6:

Pour the colored epoxy resin mixtures in your own artistic way.

Step 7:

Apply a small amount of heat using a heat gun to further your design. Wave the heat gun approximately 4-8 inches away from the canvas. This can be used to release any bubbles, in addition to pushing the colors into each other.

Step 8:

Let it cure for 24 hours at 75F.

I hope this helped you think of ideas for your next project.
