How to Cast a Dried Flower in an epoxy resin Pyramid

Let us marvel at Encapsulating a Rose in an Epoxy Resin Pyramid!

Thank you for sharing your precious time & knowledge with us, Tishina of @naptimecreations_tish .

Things to prepare:

This project is a 4-day process. We start by sealing the dried flower, then move to the next layer in the mold. Each layer can take 24-36 hours to cure depending on the thickness and environment for the project.

Step 1:

Gently seal the dried rose by dipping it into an epoxy mixture. This is to prevent air bubbles. Let it dry for 24-36 hours.

We like Floral Epoxy Resin for this. Floral Epoxy Resin is a 3:1 mix ratio epoxy resin. Measure 3 parts of resin and 1 part of hardener by volume. Mix them together slowly for approximately 3-5 minutes. Thoroughly scrape the edges and bottom of the container.

Step 2:

***Pro Tip

Sprinkle baby powder into the base of the mold for easier demolding of the silicone mold from the frame.

Step 3:

Attach floral wire to the stem of the rose. Test the length and strength so it is stable and hanging in the middle of your layers.

Step 4:

Mix parts A & B of Floral Epoxy Resin. This is a 3:1 mix ratio. Measure 3 parts of resin and 1 part of hardener by volume. Mix slowly for approximately 3-5 minutes. Thoroughly scrape the edges and bottom of the container.

Be sure not to over-mix or mix too rapidly.

The abrupt movement can whip unwanted bubbles into the mixture, and it can increase chemical reactions resulting in more heat. This can also speed up the gelling process and change the makeup of the epoxy resin.

*** Special notes ***

When you think you are good, scrape the edges and bottom AGAIN!

Look for mix streamers trailing the stir stick or off the wall of the container. Sticky and uncured spots at the end mean we did not mix thoroughly.

GET THE MIXTURE OUT OF THE CONTAINER as quickly as possible. Do not let it sit in the container for extended periods.

Pour 2oz of the mixture with your color preference into the mold.

***Note your calculations for color mixtures on paper to refer to the next day.

Step 5:

If you pour slowly and stop several times, you can release any pesky bubbles with a toothpick or heat gun as you see them.

Step 6:

Slowly add the sealed rose into the mold with resin. Make sure it is adequately submerged and secured to the floral wire. Please leave it to cure for 24 hours.

Step 7:

Pour 4oz of epoxy resin similar to the previous day (refer to your previous day's notes). You can get rid of the bubbles using a heat gun as you see them. Let it cure for 24 hours at 75F.

Step 8:

Once cured, trim the stem of the rose.

Step 9:

Pour 4oz of epoxy mixed with glitters. Spray with 91% Isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the bubbles.

Step 10:

Let it cure for 24 hours. Demold.

I hope this was helpful.
